Diakopoulos on Algorithmic Accountability in DC
How are algorithms being deployed in decision-making processes? This question was posed at a panel event on algorithmic transparency and accountability in New York.
September 14, stakeholders and computer analysts met in the National Press Club in Washington DC to discuss the importance of the Statement on Algorithmic Transparency and Accountability. ViSmedia researcher Nicholas Diakopoulos, and Geoff A. Cohen, Ansgar Koene, Jeanna Neefe Matthews and Dan Rubins were present.
Diakopoulos has a background in computing and is now an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication at Northwestern University, where he is Director of the Computational Journalism Lab (CJL). Diakopoulos is a world leading expert on algorithmic accaountability. He has done extensive methodological research on how to characterize algorithmic influence and power in society, and how algorithms are being deployed in decision-making processes.
